Miriam and Kebrina

Miri and Kebrina

Hi, my Name is Kebrina and i am from Hongkong. I just finished my bachelor degree in Accounting and Finance. In my free time I like to exercise, whenever I can. Besides that I like to read all kinds of books, because I have the feeling there is still so much to learn.

That’s also one reason why I take part in the Buddy program. Also I really wanted to take part in an exchange program as long as I am a student. Another reason is, that I’m happy to meet a lot of new people and live independently, because in Hongkong we all live with our parents.

Hi, I’m Miriam, Kebrina’s Buddy and I’m German, from the black forest area. This semester is my last semester in my Master in Human Geography. Like Kebrina, I like sports, especially running, swimming and hiking. Also I enjoy travelling the world and reading books. My motivation for taking part in the Buddy program is to get to know more people, especially from Asia and also I am really looking forward to all of the nice activities we will have together.

Elena and Marco

Elena and Marco

Hi, my name is Elena. I’m living in Tübingen, but originally, I come from a small village near Nürtingen. I’m studying Medical Engineering at two universities, Tübingen and Stuttgart. During leisure time, I enjoy doing sports, meeting friends and cooking/baking. In winter, I like to go skiing and snowboarding whereas in summer I enjoy swimming and having a picnic in the park. For me, the Buddy Program is a good opportunity of getting to know new people and different cultures. I’m looking forward to it as I’m sure these weeks will be a lot of fun.

My buddy Pak Hei (or Marco) lives in Hongkong, where he is also studying Civil Engineering. It’s his first time in Germany and Europe in general. He likes to go hiking around Hongkong and playing the guitar, which he learned all by himself. Marco is participating in the IES Buddy Program because he has never done a semester abroad and didn’t want to miss that experience before finishing his degree. On top oft that, he wanted to do something totally different to what he’s studying at the moment.

Sonja and Harvey

Harvey&Sonja

My name is Sonja and my Buddy’s name is Harvey. I am doing my Bachelor in International Economics in Tübingen and Harvey studies Economics and Finance at the University of Hongkong. One thing that we have in common is our love to travel. Besides swimming and jogging, one of his hobbies is traveling and he has already been to the UK, Thailand, Taiwan and Japan. I am active in the debating club of my University and I love to go rock climbing. The International & European Studies Program is Harvey’s first exchange experience. When I asked him why he participates in this program he said that he wanted a first-hand experience of another culture, something that you cannot get from reading in books. And since history and politics are closely linked to a countries economy, Europe is a fascinating place to be observing those relations, especially for someone who studies Economics. I participate in the Buddy-Program because it is really fun to introduce international students to the German culture. Also I know from my own exchange experiences, that it is nice to have somebody’s help along the way, even if it’s only a small thing (like lending washing soap ;)).

Ziquing and Juliane

Ziquing and Juliane

This is Ziqing. Because her chinese name is hard to pronounce, you can call her Rosaline. She comes from Beijing, China and studies International Politics. Her hobbies are watching movies, music and travelling. She participates in the IES-Program because she wants to meet new people, explore a new country and see a „new world“.

My name is Juliane and I come from a small village near by Karlsruhe, Germany. I’m doing my master in Adult Education. In my free time I like doing sports, meeting my friends, cooking  and listening to music. I participate in the Buddy-Program because I want to learn about foreign countries, unknown cultures and meet new people.

Lisa and Sherry

Shengran Su+ Lisa ZirjacksHi there,

my name is Lisa Zirjacks and I´m studying Medical Engineering in the fourth semester at the University of Tübingen. Originally, I´m from Mannheim, quite a big town between Frankfurt and Stuttgart. In my spare time I enjoy catching up with friends, backing or cooking together and sports like jazz and modern dance, running and skiing.

Besides I like to travel and get to know other people and other cultures, which is why I participate in the Buddy-Program.

My buddy, Sherry Su , is from Peking, where she´s studying International Politics and English at the University of International Relations. When she is not busy studying, she really likes dancing and has been practicing ballroom dancing. Additionally she is skilled in ink and wash (calligraphy).

She´s really interested in other cultures, specially the European culture, which is why she takes place in this IES-Program. Also she hopes to improve her English.

David Paul and Nelson

Nelson studies Renaissance Engineering and I study Interdisciplinary American Studies. We both enjoy traveling and photography. We decided to participate in the program because we both want to learn more about different cultures and to get to know new people.

Maxine and Jenny

Maxine and Jenny

Hi, my name is Maxine and I’m from Munich, Germany. Last October I left Bavaria and came to this beautiful part of Germany to study Cognitive Science at the University of Tübingen. What I like about my subject is its diversity since it is composed of computer science, psychology, neurobiology and even more. In my leisure time I like going to the theatre or to the movies, doing sports like volleyball or doing other outdoor activities with my friends. I’m also interested in travelling to foreign countries and getting to know other cultures, which is also, why I participate in the Buddy-Program.

Now I would like to introduce my buddy Jenny. Her Cantonese name is Chiong Hoi Ki and she comes from Hong Kong, which is about a hundred times bigger than Tübingen. She studies Civil Engineering at the University of Hong Kong and will graduate this year. She has also already done an internship at a railway station (the only one in Hong Kong) due to her studies. Similarly to me, she also likes doing sports in her free time, especially badminton or water sports. She has even accomplished a lifesaving training once. The reason why she participates in the IES-Program is because she wanted to go abroad for a while before finishing university. Therefore she chose Germany since she has never been to Europe before and a friend, who had been here for a year, recommended Tübingen to her.
